The HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arresting) filter was first developed in the 1950s by the United States Department of Defense as a way to protect service men and women from the dangers of radioactive fallout. With the ability to filter 99.97% of airborne particles it quickly found its way into the consumer market place and is now a prominent piece of the home air purifier market.

Because it is so efficient at removing airborne particle such as dust, dust mites, mold spores, pet dander, pollen, and other allergens it has been found to be beneficial to those who suffer allergies, asthma and other respiratory ailments. Here are some of the health benefits of using a HEPA air filter.

Snoring can be not only annoying to others but it can also be dangerous in the form of sleep apnea. Many people have found that using a HEPA air purification unit in the bedroom helps alleviate their snoring by removing the airborne particles and allergens that contribute to their congestive state.

These high efficiency filters can also help relieve the congestion and stuffiness that many people experience regardless of whether they have allergies or not. This is a result of the high energy efficiency that most houses and buildings are constructed with. Because of this efficiency the air inside is generally more polluted and stale then outside. HEPA filters help combat this problem by keeping the air circulating while removing harmful pollutants.

The nice thing about a HEPA filter is its size. Because of the way the filter is put together it takes up a small space for all its filtering efficiency. This has allowed air purifier manufacturers to create compact portable models that can easily be moved from room to room.

As you can see a HEPA filter has many positive health benefits. Using one of these high efficiency filters can be a good way to help alleviate many of the symptoms and health issues associated with airborne pollutants.
